Advances in home technology continue to make our lives easier in a number of ways, including in the kitchen. Two top faucet brands - Delta and Moen - have introduced a number of innovations over the last several years that both help you clean up faster and easier than ever before and reduce the amount of time you spend keeping your kitchen faucet looking great. Here are three technologies for you to consider:

Touch & Touchless Faucets

Delta Faucet introduced Touch2O faucets to the residential market 10 years ago. Engineers developed sensors that measure changes in capacitance – the human body’s natural electricity – to operate the faucet. Just a simple touch from the back of your hand, wrist or even your elbow on the neck or spout of the faucet turns the water both on and off.

After years of motion-activated fixtures in commercial settings like airports and restaurants, Moen introduced their MotionSense Wave technology to the residential market. MotionSense eliminates the need to touch your faucet at all to operate it. Instead, sensors under the spout and at the base detect movement to start and stop the water flow.

Both models are a single-hole installation with a handle so you can set the force of the water flow and the temperature. More, the sensors in both Delta’s touch and Moen’s touchless faucets are sophisticated enough that you don’t have to worry about the water starting and stopping multiple times while you’re working at the sink.

Optional A/C power adapters are available to power your touch or touchless faucet. Otherwise, they both run on batteries that have a 2- to 5-year lifespan.

Advanced Spray Technology

Delta's ShieldSpray and Moen’s PowerClean both offer a more robust spray with their pull-down faucets so you can make quick work of cleaning tough, stuck-on, gooey messes.

ShieldSpray delivers a jet surrounded by a water shield that contains splash and mess. Buttons on the pull-down spray allow you to toggle easily between spray, stream, and ShieldSpray.

With the PowerClean from Moen, you’ll have a spray that is 50 percent stronger than usual without an increased splash. Increased force doesn’t mean you’re using more water. Instead, you’ll actually use less overall.

Spot-Resistant Finishes

You expect your kitchen faucet to help you work smarter, not harder, and now, you can also depend on spot-resistant finishes to keep it looking great with minimal maintenance.

Both Delta’s SpotShield® and Moen’s Spot Resist™ feature a special coating that resists water spots and fingerprints. With SpotShield, you also get the added benefit of anti-microbial protection to help reduce the collection of germs and bacteria on your kitchen faucet.

Spot-resistant finishes, unfortunately, are only available in two finishes – brushed nickel and stainless steel – so options are limited if you prefer polished chrome or oil-rubbed bronze. You could always opt for a PVD (physical vapor deposition) finish, which offers corrosion, tarnish and scratch resistance in a greater variety of finishes to more readily match the style of your kitchen.

There are many similarities between Delta and Moen kitchen faucets and the technologies they’ve built in to make your life easier. The greatest difference, though, that will most likely drive your decision is whether or not you prefer touch or a touchless faucet.
